Hong Kong-headquartered fintech company FinFabrik announced the closure of its seed funding round, backed by BitMEX Ventures. The investment amount was not disclosed. BitMEX Ventures serves as the investment arm of Seychelles-based HDR Global Trading Ltd., the company operating the BitMEX cryptocurrency derivatives platform.
The capital will support platform expansion and product development targeting the digital asset sector. "Our team is focused on creating solutions that enable asset owners to deploy their assets and liabilities," said Alex Medana, FinFabrik's CEO and co-founder. "The successful closing of our seed round with support from leading institutional investors is a major milestone for FinFabrik. With this vote of confidence and continued support from our key partner BitMEX Ventures, we are now markedly closer to realizing our vision of making investment opportunities broadly available for everyone."
Launched in 2016, FinFabrik builds software platforms delivered as a service, enabling clients to execute trades spanning various asset classes including equities and digital tokens. The company's portfolio includes BrokerFabrik, which permits brokerage operations to run their entire equity business through a single unified interface while cutting technology costs and strengthening customer retention. CryptoFabrik represents another key offering, a digital asset trading platform catering to institutional and professional participants.
Operating in the B2B space, FinFabrik serves two distinct customer groups: established financial institutions such as banks, brokerages, and wealth management firms seeking technology upgrades, plus organizations focused on cryptocurrency and digital assets.
The company's founders have earned recognition as prominent fintech strategists across the Asia-Pacific region. FinFabrik's mission centers on revolutionizing the financial services industry through blockchain technology and artificial intelligence, democratizing access to wealth-building mechanisms. "We firmly believe we can achieve that with better technology and user experiences," states Dr. Florian Matthaeus Spiegl, who serves as FinFabrik's co-founder and COO. He notes that throughout Southeast Asia, penetration of professional trading and wealth management services remains constrained, as incumbent financial firms running obsolete systems lack the economics to service less wealthy investors.
BitMEX specializes in bitcoin derivatives contracts, serving experienced market participants. The platform achieved a significant record in August 2018, processing over 1 million bitcoin within a single 24-hour period. BitMEX Ventures, established in the prior year, operates as the company's investment division, managing a portfolio of crypto and fintech companies with complementary offerings to BitMEX's core operations. Blockfolio, among the portfolio holdings, completed a $11.5 million Series A fundraising round in October, with BitMEX Ventures as a participating investor.
"BitMEX Ventures is dedicated to supporting the growth of financial infrastructures surrounding emerging asset classes, such as cryptocurrencies, and supporting the world's most innovative blockchain startups," remarked Arthur Hayes, co-founder and CEO of BitMEX. "We believe in FinFabrik's highly-capable team and its mission of creating institutional-grade investment opportunities that allow everyone to participate in building their own wealth. We strongly believe in financial inclusion opportunities and the technology created by FinFabrik will have a lasting impact on the next generation of professional trading tools for digital assets."
