BTC.com, the Bitcoin wallet backed by Chinese mining giant Bitmain Technologies, will let users buy coins without leaving the app. The partnership with US exchange Kraken brings Kraken Direct into BTC.com's interface, giving customers one-click Bitcoin purchases and sales. Kraken Direct came from Kraken's December 2016 acquisition of Glidera, a service the exchange rebranded and integrated into its suite of products.

The integration adds a Bitcoin "Buy" button to the wallet app, letting users transact without switching platforms. BTC.com expects to expand beyond the US later this year. "Our users will be thrilled to know that they no longer need to leave our wallet to purchase bitcoin," said Alejandro De La Torre, BTC.com's business development and marketing manager. "Purchases can now be made directly in the BTC.com wallet. We are also delighted to partner with Kraken Direct, an industry leader with a highly professional service and team."

Bitmain acquired Blocktrail in July 2016 and rebranded it as BTC.com. Blocktrail had offered users a mobile wallet, API access, a developer platform, and a blockchain explorer before the acquisition. Bitmain operates several platforms in the cryptocurrency space beyond the wallet: the Antminer line of mining hardware, Antpool for mining services, and Hashnet. The company ranks among the world's leading manufacturers of Bitcoin mining equipment.

Cryptocurrency wallet and exchange providers have recently begun embedding purchasing and conversion features into their platforms as they seek to improve the user experience and reduce friction. Decentral, a Canadian startup that developed the Jaxx multi-currency wallet, partnered with Switzerland-based ShapeShift to integrate an in-wallet conversion feature. ShapeShift provides global trading of digital assets via web and mobile, focusing on speed, convenience, and security.
