CardCash.com now lets users buy discounted gift cards using bitcoin, with BitPay handling the transactions. The company describes itself as the web's largest secondary gift card marketplace. It buys and sells cards between users, offering rates that beat retail prices.

This sets it apart from rivals Gyft and eGifter, which keep retail prices but give Bitcoin buyers 3% cash-back rewards. CardCash's discounts exceed that 3% return.

BitPay announced the addition days ago without much notice. CEO Elliot Bohm revealed the bitcoin option during an August interview with Bitcoin Magazine, but the company never specified when it would launch. CardCash's blog post shows both September 4th and today as its publication date. Archive.org snapshots document no bitcoin mention from August 28 through September 6, before the feature appeared online this week.

The addition gives bitcoin users access to CardCash's broader inventory. The platform carries products Gyft and eGifter don't stock—WalMart, Kroger, Wegmans—making grocery purchases simpler and cheaper for cryptocurrency users.

Users face some drawbacks. Transactions require a $15 minimum. Many gift cards require shipping by mail. Digital cards download upon purchase. CardCash hasn't launched its mobile app yet, though Android and iOS beta builds are testing. Users can't sell gift cards for bitcoin, only purchase them.

Bohm ran an AMA on ZapChain where he hinted at future bitcoin incentives. "We will also be offering bitcoin users a special discount in the future, passing back value that we save on transaction fees to the consumer," he explained.
