A joint study from Mumsnet and eToro challenges a persistent misconception about women and investment. The survey polled 1,025 female Mumsnet users between July 11 and July 30. Women show more financial curiosity and investment appetite than stereotypes suggest.

Nearly half the respondents, 47%, reported at least some knowledge of investing. When asked whether they wanted to manage their own finances and invest for themselves, 55% said yes. Two main motivations drive these women: 73% want long-term returns, while 71% want to build savings for their children.

Women show comfort with alternatives to traditional investments. Four out of five Mumsnet respondents recognized the term cryptocurrency, and 42% said they either owned cryptoassets or would consider doing so.

eToro found a higher adoption rate among its female investors. In October, 90% of them held cryptoassets. XRP topped the list of holdings among female eToro investors. The asset represented 56% of their cryptoasset positions, with Bitcoin at 15%, Ethereum at 10%, Litecoin at 6%, and Stellar at 3%.

Iqbal V. Gandham, UK managing director at eToro, framed the findings as an opportunity. "This research suggests that in many cases women want to invest but don't know where to start. This no longer needs to be the case. Technology has transformed the investment world from a small, opaque club into a community that anyone can tap into. This should be to the benefit of prospective female investors."

Justine Roberts, founder of Mumsnet, offered a similar perspective. "This research shows that when it comes to investing, contrary to popular belief, it's not all about the men. Women are keen to understand their options when it comes to investing and more should be done to equip them with the guidance and knowledge to get started."

Cryptoassets remain highly volatile and unregulated. Investors in the EU receive no protection through the bloc's investor safeguards. Capital is at risk.
