Professional tennis player Gaël Monfils has become an unlikely champion for cryptocurrency trading. The 31-year-old Frenchman, nicknamed "Sliderman" for his theatrical on-court antics, recently emerged as a sponsored advocate for eToro, the social trading network – but this endorsement comes backed by genuine success in digital assets.

Monfils' credentials extend well beyond the tennis court. He achieved a career-best world ranking of No. 6 in 2016, has competed in ten consecutive Wimbledon tournaments, and reached the US Open semifinals on two occasions (2008 and 2016), accumulating £10.5 million in career prize money. The Sunday Times magazine labeled him "the most interesting guy in tennis," and fellow tennis legend Andy Murray considers him the sport's most exceptional athlete.

His venture into crypto began in 2017 after his brother-in-law introduced him to eToro. The platform's extensive selection of digital currencies and cutting-edge investment tools immediately appealed to him. "I use [eToro] while travelling and it gives me some independence with my money," he told The Times before competing at Wimbledon this month. "I have a diverse portfolio, with a particular interest in big tech stocks."

The partnership has proven remarkably successful. An introductory video eToro created featuring Monfils garnered approximately four million views since its late May debut. The platform continues building its presence through pioneering features including CopyTrader and CopyFunds.

Monfils documented substantial returns during his cryptocurrency ventures. "Last year I was investing especially in cryptocurrency – ethereum, litecoin, XRP and bitcoin," he revealed. "I sold out but have some left as a long-term investment, which I am not touching. I find [cryptos] fascinating – it's futuristic, definitely novel, quite volatile, and it's interesting how and why they built it. I made a very good profit; I could have had more, for sure, if I had held it for a bit longer, but I sold it at the right time for me. I think I made close to 75 percent profit."

His approach to investing reflects the discipline of someone who earned significant wealth through athletic achievement. His 2016 US Open semifinal appearance earned him $875,000 (£660,000) – his career's single largest payment. Despite cryptocurrency's volatile reputation, Monfils maintains strict risk management principles. "I know how hard I have worked to win my money. I'm a very safe person in terms of risking money. It's so hard to earn the money – why would I then risk it?"

Monfils consistently praises eToro's responsive, multi-device interface as transformative for traders managing assets while constantly on the move. His track record makes him a natural fit for those leveraging the CopyTrader mechanism.
