Nxt, the blockchain platform developed by Jelurida, is rolling out a Blockchain Creation Kit that lets developers build custom blockchains using the full Nxt source code. Builders can set up their own public blockchain complete with a native token and tailored functionality.

The base Nxt network handles standard operations like asset issuance and token trading on a built-in exchange, but doesn't support certain advanced features. Developers cannot add new transaction types, adjust token inflation, or change block parameters on the existing network. The Blockchain Creation Kit gives developers the tools to build blockchains with these features.

But there's a catch. Jelurida wrapped the kit in the Jelurida Public License (JPL), which includes two major strings. Any blockchain created with Nxt code must distribute 10% of its newly minted tokens to current NXT token holders in proportion to their existing holdings. JPL also mandates that developers release their code under the same license, letting the community build on top of their work.

Lior Yaffe, a co-founder and senior developer at Jelurida, sees the approach as solving a persistent problem in blockchain development. "We were able to create a way in which developers can build upon the Nxt blockchain to meet their specific application requirements, while at the same time supporting the existing Nxt community and the value of the NXT token. The Blockchain Creation Kit combined with the JPL aligns the incentives of core developers and third party developers which has always been a challenge in the blockchain industry, while at the same time, maintaining the open source spirit of the project."

Jelurida operates two blockchain platforms. Nxt is the flagship: an open source network where organizations issue and trade assets on a decentralized exchange. The company also develops Ardor, a next-generation platform in testnet. Ardor rethinks the Nxt architecture to handle chain bloat and scaling challenges. It lets organizations create child chains that draw security from a parent chain. Jelurida offers commercial versions of both platforms and sells consulting services to clients licensing its software.
