Propy is putting up 50,000 of its PRO tokens as prizes for the Blockchain Hackathon at the World Crypto Economic Forum in San Francisco. The tokens were worth $230,000 as of January 8th. Huobi lists them.
CEO and founder Natalia Karayaneva will speak at the conference, which runs January 13-16 at the South San Francisco Conference Center. Karayaneva said the company looked forward to "exchanging ideas with the leading blockchain engineers" at the event.
Propy set aside the tokens from a donation pool established before its August 2017 token sale. The World Crypto Economic Forum, founded in 2017 to support blockchain development, is holding its first event in San Francisco. This San Francisco event is the first of a planned global series.
The conference attracts speakers and investors including Vinny Lingham from Civic, Michael Arrington of XRP Capital and TechCrunch, Nick Szabo who invented smart contracts, Bill Barhydt from Abra, Jeremy Gardner from Augur, Joey Krug from Pantera Capital and Augur, and Spencer Bogart at Blockchain Capital. More than 300 developers will compete in the hackathon, which runs from Saturday January 13 through Sunday January 14. Participants get access to mentorship and workshops.
Propy's engineers will judge entries and support teams. The company wants participants to tackle problems in real estate transactions, including blockchain privacy and scalability issues. Propy built its platform on Ethereum for international property transactions. The platform handles property listings and searches, payments, contracts, paperwork, and title transfers.
The company has made headlines for its on-chain transactions. It moved a property in Ukraine across borders and onto the Ethereum blockchain. Propy rolled out new tools to buy and sell California property using Bitcoin in a nine-step process.
The hackathon runs from Saturday January 13 at 9 AM Pacific through Sunday January 14 at 6:30 PM Pacific. The main conference takes place January 15-16.
