Bitfury announced that Young Sohn, who has led Samsung Electronics' strategy since 2012, has joined its advisory board. The appointment comes as the Bitcoin mining industry works to distance itself from a reputation built on corporate collapses, frauds, and unfinished products.

Sohn brings three decades of experience in semiconductors and manufacturing. His career started at Intel. He then held senior roles at TiVo, Oak Technologies, and Synnex before moving to Samsung. He has run four separate public companies.
Sohn said Bitfury had demonstrated strong execution and an ability to spot growth opportunities, allowing the company to establish itself as a respected global player. Bitfury CEO Valery Vavilov responded by highlighting how Sohn's three decades of industry experience would benefit the company as it expands. Sohn's track record in building and scaling public enterprises, Vavilov noted, would prove invaluable.
The sector has matured over the past year. Major semiconductor manufacturers have partnered with miners on hardware. The press has covered Bitcoin more favorably. Perception problems persist, rooted in past bankruptcies, schemes, and vaporware.
A week before the announcement, Peter Vessels, chairman of the South Korea Bitcoin Foundation, had predicted that Samsung would profit from Bitcoin mining. Observers speculated that Sohn's board position might signal a deeper partnership forming between the two companies.
