Coinbase has worked with Google and Overstock.com to add Bitcoin payment options. In a blog post, Coinbase suggested expanding the Time Inc partnership to include "micropayments," which would let readers pay small amounts for individual articles through one-click transactions instead of purchasing full subscriptions.
Lynne Biggar, executive vice president of Time's consumer marketing division, said the company works to find new ways to streamline subscription purchases. Bitcoin, according to Biggar, helps achieve that goal.
Time Inc is not the first publisher to embrace Bitcoin. The Chicago Sun-Times partnered with Bitwall, a startup, several months ago to accept Bitcoin for subscriptions. The Time Inc partnership shows that major magazine publishers now view cryptocurrency as a viable payment option.
