Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger joined Everipedia as chief information officer. The blockchain startup is building the world's first encyclopedia on blockchains.

Everipedia launched in 2015 as a modern alternative to Wikipedia. It now develops a peer-to-peer wiki network where editors receive compensation for contributions. Unlike traditional encyclopedias dependent on ads or donations, this model creates a self-sustaining system through blockchain incentives.

Travis Moore, the company's co-founder and chief technology officer, said the addition of Sanger would "amplify Everipedia's rapid growth and reputation as a reliable source of information by and for the people." Moore noted the platform's ambition to "empower users in a whole new way" by decentralizing the knowledge base and rewarding each editor.

The platform counts between 2 million and 3 million monthly users, with 3.5 million to 5 million page views per month. Everipedia hosts more than 6 million articles, surpassing English Wikipedia in content volume.

Sanger sees blockchain as a response to misinformation. "In an era of misinformation, the world stands to benefit enormously from a transparent, immutable and decentralized protocol for accessing and sharing knowledge," he said. He outlined his vision: "We'll not only make Everipedia more comprehensive than Wikipedia; in my role, I'll help create a neutral framework enabling the world to find the best encyclopedia articles on every topic." He added that he was "delighted to join this team which is poised to innovate on the Wikipedia model just as Wikipedia innovated on the Britannica model almost two decades ago."

Everipedia compensates contributors with IQ points for curating articles. The startup is building infrastructure to convert those points into utility tokens pegged to the network's value. The company plans to move all editing and article storage to the EOS blockchain and IFRS.

Mucker Capital provided seed funding in July 2015. Angel backers include David Segura and David Petersen, chief executive of Buildzoom. A crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder raised $130,000 last year.
