Bitcoin ETFs Turned Negative for 2026 After a $1.28 Billion Week

Key Points

  • BlackRock's IBIT supplied $403 million of Friday's $411.9 million net withdrawal, about 88 percent of the group's gross outflows.
  • SoSoValue data puts the twelve funds about $914.1 million negative for 2026 after they entered the week roughly $368 million positive.

United States spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $411.9 million in net withdrawals on Friday, closing a week in which the twelve funds lost $1.28 billion and gave up the inflows they had accumulated across the rest of 2026. SoSoValue data reported by The Block puts the group's net flows for the year at about $914.1 million negative, reversing a position that stood near $368 million positive when the week opened.

BlackRock's IBIT produced most of Friday's figure. The fund lost $403 million, which The Block puts at about 88 percent of the group's gross withdrawals for the session. Fidelity's FBTC was the only fund to take in money, at $42.8 million, one session after it led Thursday's outflows with $199.9 million. Bitwise's BITB lost $20.5 million, Ark's ARKB lost $20.1 million and Grayscale's GBTC lost $11.1 million, according to Farside Investors figures reported by crypto.news. Those five funds account for the entire $411.9 million net total, so the remaining seven netted to zero between them.

The week ran in one direction with a single exception. The group lost $398.6 million on Monday and $115.6 million on Tuesday, took in $74.6 million on Wednesday, then lost $430.2 million on Thursday and $411.9 million on Friday. The five sessions sum to $1.2817 billion. The Block describes it as the worst week for the funds since late June and the second consecutive week of net withdrawals.

A small number of funds has produced most of those totals. FBTC took in $236.7 million on Wednesday, enough on its own to turn the group positive that session, then led Thursday's withdrawals at $199.9 million, then took in money again on Friday. On Friday the five funds named above accounted for the whole net figure while the other seven netted to zero. The daily headlines have turned on two funds rather than on a uniform move across the twelve.

Assets fell with both the flows and the price. Bitcoin held by the funds dropped 2.3 percent over the week to $95.9 billion, which SoSoValue puts at about 6.3 percent of bitcoin's market capitalization. IBIT's net assets stood at $60.3 billion against $65.1 billion in cumulative inflows since the fund launched in January 2024, a gap of $4.8 billion between what investors have placed in the fund and what the holdings are currently worth.

Bitcoin itself declined over the same five sessions. Its weekly chart opened at $78,354 and ranged between $74,888 and $81,196, with the price at $76,070 and the week down 2.90 percent when crypto.news read the chart at 09:31 UTC on Saturday. Neither flow series identifies who sold, and The Block attributed the week's market slide only to unnamed analysts.

The pattern extended past bitcoin. Spot ether ETFs lost $365.3 million on the week, a sixth consecutive negative week, with BlackRock's ETHA accounting for $90.8 million of Friday's $93.2 million. Those funds are about $405.6 million negative for 2026 and have shed roughly $2.02 billion since late September. Spot solana ETFs lost $26.3 million, their fifth straight negative week and $165.4 million across those five weeks, and the three hyperliquid funds lost $15.6 million as their net assets fell about 17 percent to $374.1 million.

Solana products are the exception on the annual measure. They remain about $676.2 million positive for 2026 even after five negative weeks, so the reversal applies to the two largest fund categories rather than to crypto ETFs as a group.

The year-to-date figure also measures something narrower than it can appear to. It counts flows since January 1 and not the funds' totals since launch, and the two run in opposite directions: IBIT alone has taken in $65.1 billion since January 2024. A year-to-date number turning negative records that this year's redemptions now exceed this year's subscriptions, not that investors have pulled out more than they ever put in.
